Children’s Glow Stick Crafts

Glow sticks are a great way to keep children entertained.  A lot of people are using it for children’s glow parties or as giveaways in goody bags when hosting a party.  In addition, glow sticks are perfect for games.  There are a lot of fun games that can be adapted with glow sticks to add a new level of fun.  But crafts are also a great way to keep children entertained.  Parents and teachers alike are seeing that using glow sticks as children’s crafts is a great way to keep them entertained and use their imagination and creativity.

Children who are home on holiday or need something to do after school will especially like children’s glow stick crafts.  Teachers may want to use glow stick crafts as a means to complete a school project while adding some visual interest to it.  Whenever your children complain that they are bored and have nothing to do, consider doing some of these glow stick crafts.  They will keep the children stimulated and entertained.  But also use your imagination.  You can come up with many different types of crafts that can be made with the use of glow sticks.

Creepy Glowing Spider – Halloween is an ideal time to make this fun craft but you certainly do not have to wait for this holiday to enjoy it.  You need a few materials that you probably have lying around the house and some glow stick materials.  What you need is:

Activate the six inch glow stick.  Insert it through the centre of the large Styrofoam ball, leaving a bit of the end exposed.  Push the small Styrofoam ball onto the end of the glow stick.  This will make the head and body.  Push the eye hook into the top of the body and secure with some glue from the glue gun.  Activate the glow stick necklaces and push them into the body of the spider, securing it with glue for the legs of the spider.  Make sure there are four on each side, evenly spaced.  You can attach a rubber band to the eye hook and hang it from the ceiling or outside.  You can use the glow paint to decorate the spider with scary designs or facial features.

Birthday Placemats – This is a great craft project for a birthday party, plus you will have all the guests have their own placemat for when it is time to eat cake and ice cream.  This is an easy, fun, creative and inexpensive way to use glow sticks.  What you will need is:

  • Assortment of glow stick necklaces
  • Assortment of glow stick bracelets
  • Construction paper
  • Glow paint
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue
  • Pencil, pen or crayon

Have each child pick out a piece of construction paper and write their name on it using the glow paint.  This will denote their space at the table.  Have them trace fun designs on the borders of the placemat.  Then, have the children pick out several glow stick necklaces and bracelets in different colours and activate them.  With an adult’s help, trace the designs that were made with the glue gun and place the glow sticks on the glue, holding it in place until it sticks.  Continue doing this until the placemat is decorated how they want it.  Each child will have a glowing placemat they can take home with them.

Children’s glow stick crafts are the perfect way to add some fun into their day.  Whether at a party and needing something to do or just have a few free hours that need to be filled, glow stick crafts are the ideal way to spend some time.  Children will have a great time using their creativity and imagination to make fun projects.  Plus they will have an interesting item they can use or hang up to show off what they made.  So, when looking for something to occupy time with the kids, consider some glow stick crafts.  Keep some supplies on hand for that rainy day.
